May 18 2010

Florida, the United States

On May 18, 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz, a programmer in Florida, wrote on the internet community that he wanted to see if he could order pizza with Bitcoin and said he would pay 10,000BTC, which used to be equivalent to $41, for two pizzas.

10,000BTC = 2Pizzas

Four days later, on the afternoon of May 22, a community member who read Hanyecz’s posting ordered pizza for him and received 10,000 BTC, which used to be equivalent to 41 dollars (USD).
Hanyecz posted a proof picture of eating pizza ordered by BTC with children, marking the first time in history that BTC has been used as a payment method.
