The US Formed Framework to Limit Crypto Crime

To combat criminal activity connected to cryptocurrencies, the White House announced on September 16th its digital asset regulatory framework, crypto media channel CryptoPotato reported on September 18.

Through the regulatory framework, the White House has identified six major tasks as follows: protecting consumers and businesses, strengthening financial stability, promoting responsible innovation, strengthening global financial leadership and competitiveness, combating illicit finance, and exploring the development of a U.S. central bank digital currency (CBDC).

In the meantime, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) established a team made up of roughly 150 federal prosecutors. Authorities who join the DOJ will gain knowledge about how to use current laws and authorities to investigate crimes involving digital assets, as well as best practices for writing search and seizure warrants, restraining orders, criminal and civil forfeiture actions, indictments, and other pleadings.

Law enforcement officers seized digital assets worth over $34 million in April from a Dark Web hacker. One of the biggest digital asset seizures ever carried out by American law enforcement saw 919.3 ETH, 643 BTC, 640 BTG, 640 BCH, and 640 BSV taken from the perpetrator following a collaborative investigation by many federal, state, and municipal agencies.
