CBDC Projects to Manage DeFi Liquidity and Crypto Assets

The European Union has finalized the full text of its landmark Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) regulation aiming to prevent crypto-based crimes including money laundering, the online trade of illicit goods and services, and fraud.

With the rapid expansion of the crypto asset industry, European countries such as Russia, French, the UK, and others move toward the establishment of cryptocurrency and DeFi-related regulations via the development of the national CBDC, the crypto media channel CoinTelegraph reported on September 27.

Thus, Russia has joined the growing list of countries for the crypto industry expansion and is now in the pilot phase of its central bank digital currency (CBDC) development, and recent reports suggest that the country may utilize its domestic digital currency ruble to settle international commerce with China by next year.

In the meantime, France disclosed the benefits of the national CBDC, which are aimed to be used at a wholesale level by banks and financial markets. One project aims to enhance CBDCs' liquidity management in decentralized finance (DeFi) by automated market makers, who would act similarly to investment banks to maintain trade in certain security. Another venture will focus on issuing and distributing tokenized bonds on a blockchain to settle French central bank Web3 securities.
