Mastercard to Allow Crypto Payments via USDC in Web3

The Mastercard-Immersve collaboration employs decentralized protocols to settle real-time cryptocurrency transactions in USDC on websites that accept Mastercard payments, crypto media outlet CoinTelegraph reported on February 21.

USD Coin (USDC) is a digital currency that is fully backed by U.S. dollar assets.

According to the company, users will be able to access the service using popular Web3 wallets and authorize payments using their private keys. Moreover, Web3 wallets and decentralized financial protocols may be integrated into Immersve's APIs and smart contracts to allow transactions to take place everywhere Mastercard is accepted.

In 2021, Mastercard announced its collaboration with USDC issuer Circle, and in August last year, it partnered with Binance to launch a crypto-prepaid payment card in South America. As such, in Brazil, the card enables real-time crypto-fiat conversions for 14 tokens. Perks at the time of debut included up to 8% cash back in cryptocurrency on certain purchases and no fees on select ATM withdrawals.
