Ethereum Developers to Deploy Shapella Upgrade on March 14

2023.03.10

The Ethereum Foundation has announced that the Shapella (Shanghai + Capella) unstaking upgrade will go live on the Goerli testnet on 14 March UTC, crypto media outlet CryptoSlate reported on March 9.

This will be the last testnet upgrade before scheduling Shapella for the Ethereum mainnet. It will allow validators to withdraw their stake from the Beacon Chain, the original proof-of-stake blockchain name, back to the execution layer and introduces new functionality to both the execution and consensus layer.

The upgrade will allow users to sign up as validators, validate transactions, then completely remove their monies in order to abdicate their duty to maintain the network's security and enable full and partial staked Ethereum withdrawals to be tested. Additionally, “NFT” has been found to be the most popular crypto slang used in the US, according to a study by Crossword Solver. NFT was the most used crypto slang in 15 states, followed by “Airdrop” and “DAO”.
